The Naive Ones
You put your sweaty palms over my eyes as you unlocked your house. ‘As Time Goes By’ was playing on your vintage record player, and as you released your hands I saw two lit candles on your simple dining room table. Almond butter chicken and sweet potato mash were spooned onto two places next to each other, the first meal you ever made for me. And in that moment I decided to forget all of the lies, missed calls, sleepless nights. I wanted to live in just this moment for the night, and I did. For one night, we were candlelit lovers completely obsessed with each other.
And that’s what you have to do sometimes. You have to forget all of the bad and let yourself live in the moment even though you know the end is near.
