The Sting

The Sting

It starts as a small prick, that can almost feel welcomed, like when your body feels tingly all over because of something so beautiful and awe-inspiring. Then you have your first disagreement and it begins to transform into a bit more of a burn. You make up and the burn heals and you go back to feeling the craved tingly sensation. Then another fight happens and it burns in the same spot, which makes it feel even more intense. The make up session takes longer and more is required to make the burn heal this time. You feel tingly again, but you also feel a lingering burn where the two fights left their marks. Over time, the lingering burn consumes you and it feels like your body is on fire. You search for a quick antidote, but there is none in sight. Your anger and misunderstanding only make the burn worse. Finally, in an all out fight, bare-footed in your kitchen at 2AM on a Saturday night, you surrender, and the wound begins to heal. Now you are left with a tingly sensation paired with a burning sensation that appears every now and then because it cannot fully heal. You are more careful, more reserved in order to not ignite the burn again. However, your 'walking on eggshells' and keeping everything inside leads to an explosion on a random Thursday night after drinks with coworkers at that place by the beach where you always feel like sand gets into your food. The explosion demolishes the tingling feeling and you are left with a sharp sting that goes straight through your heart, nearly killing you. It is only alone on the beach, away from your friends and him, that you realize the small prick was in fact injecting a venom that would only sting you and try to kill you in the end...and the only antidote is to never see him again and pray to God that the space heals your wounds so you are not left feeling the sting for the rest of your life...
