The Choice

The Choice

You always thought love was passive, something that just sits on the sidelines and exists (or doesn't). Then you wondered why it died with a veil left on a kitchen floor.

Love is a daily choice.

When I drank my Colada each morning, I chose you.

As I listened to The Goo Goo Dolls on my commute, I chose you.

When we got in a fight because you couldn't make our lunch, I chose you.

As I presented to the executives, I chose you.

When he hit on me at our work happy hour, I chose you.

As you walked in late from another long day in surgery, I chose you.

When we fell asleep arguing about the little things, I woke up the next morning still choosing you.

All while you let it pass by, let it walk out the door on a cold winter's night.
