The Moments That Replace Moments
It was our wedding anniversary. Nobody remembered, just me. I almost didn't remember, but then Leila shared her wedding anniversary photos on Instagram, and I remembered we got married on the same day.
He didn't know. Why would he? He took me to a country concert in Crestville. After watching my heels aerate the lawn, he took them from me and put one each in his back pockets. I just stared at my floral heels bouncing up and down in his jeans as the band came on stage. He became a small town celebrity as people began passing by to meet 'The Heel Guy.' We giggled, falling into each other's arms, not caring if the grass and mud stained our clothes.
Suddenly, a random moment, on a random night, in a random town, became more important than any anniversary. And now that is the moment I think of as every July comes to an end.
