The Bridge We Cannot Find

The Bridge We Cannot Find

Salty fries and spicy(sweet) BBQ ribs at Keese's on the coast,

Sharp sand digging into the bottom of our feet,

Dark fish in electrified green water under the pier at the tiki bar,

Motorcycles against the hazy humid sky soaked in stories from Vietnam,

Spicy red curry over brown rice in the corner booth of a place on Calle Ocho,

Bright hot pink fireworks illuminated the river that I boated on as a child,

Plugged ears by a fresh bright red manicure,

Deep dimples on the right side of that smile,

A crinkled nose.

Me, looking at you.

Fiery club with bouncers bigger than the two of us combined,

Plugged ears by nails that need to be cut,

Deep dimples on the left side of that smile,

A crinkled nose.

You, looking at me.

Us, looking at each other.

Through thousands of memories,

Wondering how we get to each other now.
